Pygmalion Preview: The Head and The Heart, Daughter, Damien Jurado
The show starts at 7:30pm on Friday, September 27th at The Krannert Center for the Performing Arts
The Seattle area singer-songwriter has been in the game since 1995, and will be kicking off the show at The Krannert Center for the Performing Arts for Pygmalion Music Festival 2013. Damien Jurado’s rhythms and melodies create a sound that almost resembles powerful work songs. He’s recorded a dozen albums and will set a fitting mood for the evening.
Originating from London, Daughter has rapidly gained popularity throughout the world. Their debut full-length album If You Leave was released earlier this year. The hauntingly beautiful vocals from Elena Tonra pull this trio forward in comparison to most post-rock pop bands. Their relaxing but moving performance will fit perfectly at the Krannert Center and transition well to the next headliner.
After dropping their debut album The Head and The Heart in 2009, the band quickly stole the hearts of indie folk lovers across the country. The band self-released their album, selling it at shows, local record stores, by internet, and word of mouth. In 2010, they were signed to Sub Pop Records, which will be putting out their highly anticipated album Let’s Be Still in October. Combining compelling vocal harmonies, moving lyrics, and killer piano lines, it is no wonder that they were one of the first shows of Pygmalion to sell out. This might be the most powerful night of the weekend, and surely not one to miss.
