Neon Indian Concert Preview

UIUC’s longest running RSO, StarCourse, has again delivered on their promise to bring some of the most diverse and interesting acts in music today down to Urbana-Champaign. StarCourse is organizing its’ first ever concert to take place at the recently opened City Center in Champaign this Sunday on October 30th, staging electronic music band The Neon Indian for their premier performance in the C-U area. The performance, which has been heavily promoted all over campus since the start of the semester, is expected to have more of a concert feel than other shows put on previously by the organization, since they had taken place in the Foellinger Auditorium on the Main Quad. The acclaimed band was named one of the “Best New Bands” of 2010 by Rolling Stone Magazine, and both their 2009 freshman album Psychic Chasms, as well as their most recent album VEGA INTL. Night School have been hailed by Pitchfork as the “Best New Albums of the Year”. Mexican-born Alan Palomo, the frontman and creative force behind the band, has received attention for their newest album because of its’ integration of both reggae and 80’s-pop and funk influenced sound. It contains more high-fi, modern production, paired with intricate and elaborate songwriting to create complex and exciting music filled with energy and mystique.  It will be interesting to see how this sound translates into a live performance and what his act will add to the musical landscape of C-U due to the sizeable following he already holds on campus and in the community, as well as through the far-reaching advertising efforts of StarCourse. This show is sure to be one of the most memorable of this year’s concert season.
