Dreams of being hip: Festival T-shirt choices
So I’m going to Lollapalooza, but not for the headliners. I’m going to see this other band that isn’t that well known play their set at noon. What am I going to wear? Is this an appropriate time to bust out the cowboy boot sideburns? Obviously, time to wear the jean cut-offs. Shoes? Why not some Toms! Already got my knock-off Raybans. Here is where things get tricky. . . what T-shirt am I going to wear? I’ve got a few options here. I can wear one of the headliners shirts ironically, I can wear an older band that isn’t playing, a lesser known band that is playing the festival or am I going to wear something I got at Salvation Army? Each of these has their own message. Wearing a headliner shirt shows you’re a mainstreamer who is probably just there for a day. If I wear a shirt from a band that isn’t playing, people will know I understand music. But, I want people to know I’m not stuck in the past. After all, I’m hip, right? The lesser known band that is playing might be my best option, but I don’t want the band to see me and think I’m they’re biggest fan because I’m the only one wearing their shirt. My conclusion has to be the Salvation Army shirt. But wait, isn’t that mainstream now because of Macklemore? I’m just not gonna go to Lolla this time around.
