Weekly Dance - Aussie Bounce - July 18th, 2015

Weekly DanceWelcome to Weekly Dance for the 18th of July! Coming at you with some Melbourne Bounce beats for today, a predominantly Australian produced vibe right now, but something that I've started taking a liking to. It melds the atmosphere of Big Room House with a characteristic bass hit-horn drop sort of flow at its core, and it's been described as taking inspiration from many genres such as psy-trance, electro, dub, and dutch. The genre overall is really fun and engaging to listen to, although a little cliche at some times due to the occasional recycled "Here We Go!" dropper. In terms of audio flavor and variation, it's one of my favorites because the leading acts (see TJR, Will Sparks, D.O.D., VINAI) have been driving the sound forward with every release, whether it be fusing unusual genres, doing new things with song structure, or pulling old samples back into the current day. [soundcloud url="https://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/176838849" params="color=ff5500&auto_play=false&hide_related=false&show_comments=true&show_user=true&show_reposts=false" width="100%" height="166" iframe="true" /]Here's a relatively well known track by the man himself Will Sparks to start things off. If you've heard of it, you probably know this genre pretty well. The track wraps together a large majority of the usual characteristics of Melbourne Bounce, with a flaring drop, a catchy, driving vocal build up, and an overall high energy, fun atmosphere. You can hear some elements of Big Room House snuck in there, especially in the synth line, but the sound overall is much more fresh. It's not as recycled as Big Room House (mind you, some Big Room tracks are fantastic in themselves), and that's kept me tuning into the genre so far. [soundcloud url="https://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/201655667" params="color=ff5500&auto_play=false&hide_related=false&show_comments=true&show_user=true&show_reposts=false" width="100%" height="166" iframe="true" /]Something a little less known here, this is by Brendan Walker. Discovered him a few days ago while prowling around for music; his tracks have a little more of a big room ring to them, but they're still definitively bounce with the flared horns in that drop. Adding bounce into the mix makes it a much more "danceable" than traditional big room house; i can picture it being a lot less engaging with a classic, stomping Big Room drop. [soundcloud url="https://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/214806800" params="color=ff5500&auto_play=false&hide_related=false&show_comments=true&show_user=true&show_reposts=false" width="100%" height="166" iframe="true" /]In this track by Who Killed Mickey (another prominent name in the genre), the energy levels are dropped a little and Melbourne Bounce shows a bit of its versatility. Whereas it has all the sounds of a traditional big room track and the build up of a progressive house track, it doesn't give off the rage or euphoria inducing fits that fits either genre when it drops. Just pure groove and variation. Wonderful work on the vocals here as well by Teddy Cream. [soundcloud url="https://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/205081163" params="color=ff5500&auto_play=false&hide_related=false&show_comments=true&show_user=true&show_reposts=false" width="100%" height="166" iframe="true" /]Did you know Olly James had a brother that produces music? If you didn't, well, now you do! They recently did a collab together in, you guessed it, Bounce style. Always something different in these tracks, this time there's an eerie vocal+synth buildup, a little cliche of a build up, and an intense, bouncy drop rung in by a unique percussive sample. The production level of this track and many current Melbourne producers in general reminds me a little of what comes out of the top Big Room labels like that of Revealed Recordings; everything is clear cut, the drop drops hard (no death by limiters here), and everything in the track shines.  MixUploading audio again, I had a mishap aligning audio to video the other day. Turns out GoPro Hero 3's record 60fps in a variable frame rate mode, and all my footage in LightWorks incidentally is desynchronised. If that made absolutely no sense, it's ok, the footage is coming :P[mixcloud https://www.mixcloud.com/Xender_Man/7-16-15-pfm/ width=660 height=208 hide_cover=1 hide_tracklist=1]
