Weekly Dance - Progressive Industry - July 11th, 2015

Weekly DanceHey everyone, ALYXX here. I realize I sort of jumped off the radar with the blog and music over the summer, apologies about that! Summer hit a little harder than I thought, but I've resetup a bit and should be back on a regular publishing schedule until semester starts though (which I'm oddly both stoked for and scared for. Mark your calendars, we only have a month left until you get to hear me on the internet airwaves again!)Here's a small little selection of progressive house just to restart things off. I have been paying attention to music at least behind th blog, and if there's one goal I had for summer it's picking a few genres to focus on, which I'll be dabbing around the next few posts. There are just so gosh darn many in electronic music, and it's weird picking a few because they're all great! From the rolling basslines of trance, to the euphoric drops of progressive house, to the high energy breakbeats of DnB, there's a whole lot of flavor in the electronic world that can be found nowadays. Without further ado though, here's some progressive that caught on my radar to kick things off again: [soundcloud url="https://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/195713186" params="color=ff5500&auto_play=false&hide_related=false&show_comments=true&show_user=true&show_reposts=false" width="100%" height="166" iframe="true" /]Estiva - Let It Go (Cuebrick Remix)No, not that "Let It Go", haha. This has been an instant favorite of mine, mainly because the way it builds up to that euphoric drop is simply marvelous. Cuebrick's mixdown adds just enough touches to the vocals that it becomes a very refined, very controlled drive up in power until it breaks. Little elements like a changing bassline just make it wonderful to listen to. Totally different from the original mix if you want to go find it; the original was more laidback, more of a feel good track, whereas Cuebrick's version gives you a drop that's "worth". [soundcloud url="https://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/208673371" params="color=ff5500&auto_play=false&hide_related=false&show_comments=true&show_user=true&show_reposts=false" width="100%" height="166" iframe="true" /]Juventa feat. Aloma Steele - Euphoria (Winterborn) (Original Mix)A similar track to the one before, Euphoria pulls you in with a powerful, rising vocal and tears into the room with a raw, punchy chorus. Subtler elements on the bassline and vocal samples gives it its own style (something I'd expect from an Enhanced Recordings artist heh), and makes it very pleasing to hear. [soundcloud url="https://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/204418611" params="color=ff5500&auto_play=false&hide_related=false&show_comments=true&show_user=true&show_reposts=false" width="100%" height="166" iframe="true" /]Markus Schulz ft Delacey - Destiny (Original Mix)Flipping it a little bit with a trancier track, this one comes from Markus Schulz (great trance DJ if you haven't heard of him). Thought it'd be interesting to throw this in because the likes of Progressive House, Trance, and Big Room House are beginning to kind of clash around together in the last few years, so tracks like these are a cool glimpse into the "State of the Industry" in my opinion. Definitely feels a little like progressive house at some points in the track with the vocal, energetic build up, but it drops into a calmer, rolling chorus that's a little more characteristic of trance. The feel of the drop is a little like the original mix of that Estiva track above in the post actually.Just goes to show that genres really are melding these days!  [soundcloud url="https://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/213814838" params="color=ff5500&auto_play=false&hide_related=false&show_comments=true&show_user=true&show_reposts=false" width="100%" height="166" iframe="true" /]Martin Garrix & Matisse and Sadko - Dragon (Original Mix)Let's go a liiiittle mainstream. At PizzaFM we pride ourselves in digging around for music on our own and not really listening to the Top 40 or BP Top 10, etc. etc., but at times I think it's good to see where the big guys are heading. Like it or not, they're tastemaking on a massive scale, and that still has a dramatic effect on the crowds you play to, the music you hear all the time, and maybe even the friends you make :S. Anyhow, this plays a little off of the past track, in that it's a little erring on the trancey side of progressive house (as opposed to the progressive side of trance, ha). It's from one of the biggest names in EDM right now, Martin Garrix, thanks to Tiesto's mentorship no doubt, and it's interesting that he's taking this approach to the track. Not much more of the rage, drop-happy tracks that he did in the past, this one's a little calmer. Almost reminiscent of the really progressive looking stuff in trance, if you've heard stuff from Above and Beyond it gives me a little bit of that feeling. Peculiar, I know, but interesting to think about nevertheless. Playlist/MixNope, no playlist this time. I mixed a short session for y'all instead...but unfortunately I'm still editing! I meant to get it up at the same time as this post, but it's taking a little longer than I expected. Partially due to the fact that a wisdom tooth extraction is keeping me down much harder than I anticipated, but I'll do my best. Wanted to get up some music ASAP at the least. I'll link the mix here when it's up and also the next post. Here's the mixtape audio as promised. Unfortunately I'm not going to include the video as well (whaaaat, video?). I recorded the session in video and audio, just my setup was a little more convoluted than I'm used to (two cameras, a screen recorder, and a audio recording, oh boy). After video editing today and yesterday, I realized it wasn't turning out the way I exactly wanted (noteably one camera recorded in 720p not 1080p, *cries), so I've taken it as a video editing exercise and am just uploading the audio to mixcloud. Will be giving it another go next Saturday though![mixcloud https://www.mixcloud.com/Xender_Man/weekly-dance-for-pizzafm-progressive-industry/ width=660 height=208 hide_cover=1 hide_tracklist=1] Cheers,-ALYXX
