Tonight (2.27.13): Jonathan Richman

Jonathan Richman

Who: Jonathan RichmanWhen: 8:00 p.m.Where: The Canopy ClubCost: $15Ages: 18+Facebook eventI grew up in a time where the "punk" scene was driven by Fat Wreck Chords, Anti-Flag, NOFX, Sum 41, and Blink 182. My generation caught what could be construed as the butt of punk, where whenever anyone played power chords to a drum beat faster than 180 bpm, one group of kids would call it "punk" and another group of kids would scoff and go, "That's not real punk." Without getting into that debate, I can tell you that Jonathan Richman is widely considered one of the most influential figures in what eventually turned into punk. Him and his band The Modern Lovers were driving forces in the "proto-punk" scene of the 60s and 70s. Tonight, the 61-year old rock legend is spending an evening at The Canopy Club, and as along as you're above the age of 18, you're totally invited. Don't let his age fool you; he can still rock more socks off an audience than you'll wear in your entire life.
