Jake Simmons & the Little Gh

Tonight! (Friday, November 8)

Who: Jake Simmons & the Little Ghosts, That's No MoonWhen: 9:00 pm – 11:30 pmWhere: Mike 'N Molly'sAges: 19+Event LinkJake Simmons is a front man with definite, if a little ironic, swagger.  He likens his band to a "Motown-era rhythm machine" and uses them to deliver a hearty Midwestern mix of anything that can be twisted around and dubbed "indie."  We're talking country, rock, pop, folk, punk, etc.  The list goes on and on.  Joining him tonight is That's No Moon, who know how to make indie dance-worthy with electronic influences.  Another Midwestern band, they're due to release their sophomore album shortly and they boast of a special talent for destroying dance floors.  With their infectious music, it sure seems like they can deliver on that promise and then some.

The Lone Below

Tomorrow! (Saturday, November 9)

Who: The Lone Bellow, Greg Holden

When: 6:30 pm – 8:30 pm

Where: The Canopy ClubCost: $12 in Advance, $14 at the DoorAges: 18+Event LinkThe Lone Bellow are from New York, automatically making them very cool.  And the kind of cool music they play?  "Brooklyn Country," which is, in fact, a real thing.  Because they play it.  It's a very cool, very real thing.  Another cool thing?  Actually, a few cool things?  They have a mandolin player as part of the band AND a recently released debut album (it's self-titled).  It came out in January, and it's where a lot of enthusiasm for "Brooklyn Country Music" stems from.  Seeing them live will probably spark the same enthusiasm in you.  Greg Holden joins them.  The singer-songwriter gained some recent fame for co-writing American Idol winner Phillip Phillip's popular single, "Home," and he boasts a strong catalogue of songs.
