This Weekend! CU Folk and Roots Fest, Electric Bitters, and more
Who: CU Folk and Roots FestFriday, November 2When: First event at 5 p.m.; ticket sales at 5:30Where: All over UrbanaCost: $25 for the whole festivalAges: All agesWhile folk has been well-incorporated into mainstream music for some time now, it's pretty easy to forget where it all came from. Folk culture is about music for the sake of music, sharing your crafts and talents with others, so they might learn a thing or two, in the hopes that you'll pick up something as well. So, in such a tight-knit music community like Champaign-Urbana, the CU Folk and Roots Festival is a super cool thing in which you and all of your fun-loving buddies can participate. Listen to music, play music, attend workshops. The schedule is packed, and the festival curators even managed to squeeze genres into the schedule so you can better plan your day. Sunday, November 3
Who: Conspirator, Boombox, Abakus, Cinnamon ChasersWhen: 9 p.m.Where: Canopy ClubCost: $17 in advanceYou might've noticed that booking for Canopy Club has changed a bit, to more of what you might expect at a Big Ten, state University, with an incredibly high involvement in Greek Life among students. Though bands like of Montreal and Cymbals Eat Guitars are less likely to play there, Canopy Club still works on getting in some high-quality electronic, jam, and party bands perfectly fit for extending the weekend and gettin' sweaty. That's what this show is all about.
