Show Preview: Harm's Way, Homewrecker, Ghost Key, Doomsayer, Need
We all know that Pygmalion Music Festival is going to dominate the C-U area this whole weekend, and it is going to be off the chain. But what if you're a punk rocker? What if you don't want to spend the money for a day or weekend pass and would much rather do some Saturday night slammin'? Look no further! This Saturday, September 28, Error Records is hosting one helluva hardcore/punk show, featuring Harm's Way of Deathwish Inc.NeedThis show is without doubt prioritized, especially since Need is up first. If I recall, their set at the inaugural Dumb Fest, a punk showcase in the historic South Town district of Springfield, was ridiculously fantastic. The band set up atop a half-pipe ramp in Skank Skates while their vocalist found himself at the bottom of the ramp, causing mayhem among the audience members while yelling in their faces. Currently, the Chicago/Champaign hardcore punk group, which shares members with Kowabunga! Kid and Horrible Things, has a tape out on local DIY label Crippled Sound that's worth a listen. Be prepared for Need to kick the night off with a chaotic and energetic set as Error Records is pushed to its circle pit capacity.Check out Need's music and other Crippled Sound releases hereDoomsayerThe first time I remember seeing this blackened hardcore duo was in a cramped basement in Peoria. It was captivating to watch; vocalist/guitarist Jake Lee runs his axe through two separate rigs and howls into the microphone while Nathan Landolt - the owner of Error Records himself - delivers an abrasive percussion performance to match. The duo is a fairly new collaboration, but plans to release a demo, and hopefully a music video as well, fairly soon. If you think their stuff is nice, catch it twice; they'll be playing again on October 14 with Call of the Void and Meth Dealer.Check out Doomsayer's Facebook page hereGhost KeyGhost Key is the most recent addition to the show. All five members of this Peoria-based melodic hardcore band together deliver a set saturated with raw energy and emotion, with vocalist Austin O'Brien front and center in the attack. The group is already well-established; they already have gone on two tours, hopped aboard Rooftop Records, and released Winter, a tape which has made its way into a couple online reviews. The group comes to Champaign following a show at the Black Sheep Cafe in Springfield the night before, a short weekend run serving as a precursor to a 4-week tour in November.Check out Ghost Key's Bandcamp hereHomewreckerOn tour with the main attraction, Homewrecker, off of crust label A389 Recordings, are coming from Ohio to bring the pain at Error. These heavy-hitters offer a specialized blend of hardcore, powerviolence, and crust punk that they are taking with them not only across the nation - they currently are making their way back from the west coast - but across the Atlantic Ocean for a two-week tour of Europe. With that being said, it's certainly a treat that they are stopping through Champaign. Check them out and, if you like what you hear, pick up their new LP, Circle of Death, once it drops early next year.Check out Homewrecker's Bandcamp hereHarm's WayThis Chicago metal/hardcore outfit has recently received attention for hopping onto Deathwish Inc. for their newest EP, Blinded, and they are coming to Error Records to crush your skull in. Rolling into town off of a nationwide tour with Homewrecker and Dead in the Dirt, Harm's Way looks forward to returning their home state to deliver their aggressive brand of industrial brutality to the willing participants of the Champaign-Urbana community. Stay through 'til them, pick up their new EP, and don't be afraid to throw down at Error this Saturday night with them.Check out Harm's Way page on Deathwish's website hereThe show is all-ages, and if you have not purchased a will-call ticket through Error Records' website, do that here. Paying $10 at the door is also an option. Doors open at 7 and the show starts at 8. I'll C-U there!
