Pygmalion Recap: The Head and the Heart, Daughter, Damien Jurado
I always feel a weird divide at big music shows at Krannert. Some patrons dressed well for a show at Krannert and some dressed for a music show. Some patrons felt like standing and dancing to the music and some felt like sitting in their seats to enjoy a show. Whichever you prefer, the sound and lights at Krannert resound as an amazing place to host Pygmalion.
Damien Jurado
Damien Jurado and his acoustic guitar took the stage in the Festival Theater first. The quiet, respectful audience remained seated to enjoy his soothing voice and song structure. I noticed that just-arriving patrons were only allowed in between sets, adding to the respectful atmosphere of Krannert Center for the Performing Arts. At certain points between songs he added a bit of flavor, notably with his "Illannoyed" shirt idea for a young, annoyed-looking student he saw on campus earlier that day.
Daughter
The indie pop of Daughter filled the seats of the Festival Theater next, adding much more noise than Damien Jurado, especially when the guitarist strummed with a violin bow. The angelic voice of Elena Tonra paused between songs to tell the audience how happy they were to be in C-U all the way from London.
The Head and the Heart
As The Head and the Heart took the stage the energy rose immediately. The majority of the audience stood and cheered at the beginning of every crowd favorite while the artists used the space to their advantage, dancing and further riling the crowd.
