Dreams of Being Hip: Ironic Headliners
Well, it's Pitchfork this weekend. You guys know what that means? It's time to pretend we all love R. Kelly. Aside from the novelty afterwards of saying "I saw R. Kelly," who really cares?I feel like they got R. Kelly just so they could say that they have R. Kelly. It's like when Dillo Day had Nelly. The best thing about it is I could say "I saw Nelly."I think seeing Nelly is funnier than R. Kelly because I doubt Nelly actually has legitimate fans left. R. Kelly solidified himself as a egotistical pop-star with Trapped in The Closet. But seriously, why is R. Kelly headlining one of the most hip festivals of all time? Is it an irony thing? I just don't get it at all. This irony thing is going too far. It's funny. But really, if I'm paying money, I'd rather see a great show than have a funny one-liner.And that's why this week's dream of being hip is for festivals to stop getting old pop-stars as ironic headliners.
