Weekly Mouthful: Wicked Walls
Often times, different media outlets will attempt to differentiate their video content by adding a weird n' wacky spin so people will say, "Hey! They're doin' something different!" Well, we're no different. This is The Weekly Mouthful, a video series featuring interviews with artists as they eat pizza.
Last year, locals New Ruins put out an excellent record, This Life is Not Ours to Keep, produced by Brian Deck (Modest Mouse, Iron and Wine, Chin Up Chin Up, etc.). Rumor has it that Isaac Brock himself was to originally produce the LP, but he got busy. Though unconfirmed, it wouldn't surprise me, as New Ruins was among a very large group of local bands with significant and deserved prevalence outside Champaign-Urbana. So, recent news of the band's separation posted to its Facebook was definitely shocking. But, among the "ruins" of a CU staple rises Wicked Walls, a quartet composed of three parts ex-New Ruins and one part ex-You in Midair.Since the band's inception in really, really late 2012, J. Caleb Means, Roy Ewing, Andy Davidson, and Lindsey Barr have already started recording Wicked Walls' debut album, with single "Crystal Balls" already streaming on Soundcloud. With their first show coming up this Friday at Mike n' Molly's (with Light Foils and Shitz0), band lovebirds Means and Barr stepped into the Pizza FM office for some interview action. In this installment of The Weekly Mouthful, watch two members of Wicked Walls talk discuss the band's formation, upcoming record, and more, while they enjoy two slices of delicious n' cheesy pizza.**Interview by Yarden Trace
