Weekly Mouthful: ON AN ON

Often times, different media outlets will attempt to differentiate their video content by adding a weird n' wacky spin so people will say, "Hey! They're doin' something different!" Well, we're no different. This is The Weekly Mouthful, a video series featuring interviews with artists as they eat pizza.

*Article by Adam Barnett; interview by Tyler Cochrane and Adam BarnettIn the middle of July, Chicago-based Scattered Trees announced a big change on its website. Scattered Trees had broken up, despite prior obligations to record a new album. But then, who was going to record the new record? Since Tom Jones was busy that day, Nate and Alissa Eisland (guitars and keyboards, respectively) and Ryne Estwing (bass) made a big decision to keep pursuing music as a trio. The new project, ON AN ON, doesn't continue where Scattered Trees left off, though. Where Scattered Trees accumulated a significant fanbase enthralled by its heartfelt indie rock anthems, ON AN ON approaches music from an entirely different, effects-heavy, ethereal pop plane (possibly even universe). With debut LP Give In coming out January 29, the band has already seen significant buzz surrounding its first two singles, vocoder-driven "The Hunter" and "Ghosts," which was featured in a recent episode of Grey's Anatomy. Champaign-Urbana got a preview of Give In during ON AN ON's set at The Velvet Elvis on Sunday, and it's clear that whatever choices ON AN ON made post-Scattered Trees were spot-on and can only lead to headphone cups full of "ear candy."In this ninth installment of "The Weekly Mouthful," ON AN ON discusses the forthcoming album, animated GIFs, Ryne's birthday, watching William Daniels (Mr. Feeny) suffer from a heart attack to "Ghosts" on Grey's Anatomy, and more, all while eating some hearty cheese pizza.
