Weekly Mouthful: Eyal Rob

Often times, different media outlets will attempt to differentiate their video content by adding a weird n' wacky spin so people will say, "Hey! They're doin' something different!" Well, we're no different. This is The Weekly Mouthful, a video series featuring interviews with artists as they eat pizza.

Eyal Rob - The Weekly MouthfulWe at Pizza FM tend to focus on music found around the US. And, while that will always be our primary focus, we couldn't pass up an opportunity to learn about the musical output of one of the hippest cities in the Middle East, Tel Aviv. A secular, significantly more liberal and Westernized hub off the coast of Israel, Tel Aviv has produced some pretty rad contributions to the broad genre of "World music," and more specifically world music rooted in urban music and culture. Tel Aviv-based DJ, media critic, and Israeli MTV producer Eyal Rob visited Allen Hall at the U of I earlier this week to discuss the city's incredibly active musiculture. Though, Champaign-Urbana was a single stop on an ongoing lecture/DJ tour across the US intending to raise awareness for the positive and non-political/controversial aspects of the Middle East. Rob wants his audience to realize that there is more to Israel than conflict and that Tel Aviv can out-party anyone in the United States.

In this installment of The Weekly Mouthful, Eyal Rob discusses the birth and development of Tel Aviv's urban music scene, while he enjoys a hearty slice of pizza.
