Tonight: Pygmalion Music Festival, Day One

Pygmalion Music Festival is entering its eighth year, and shame on you if you haven't heard the buzz about it around town. While festival wristbands might encourage you to pilfer your piggy bank (I actually have a dinosaur bank, but "different strokes..."), it's important to note that you can attend individual shows without purchasing a festival pass. Some shows, like the one at the Krannert Art Museum tonight, are completely free, so if you consider yourself even remotely interested in music, it might be worth it to take a look-see at what's goin' on around town. Here's the rundown of the three shows happening this evening: Where: Krannert Art Museum (500 East Peabody Drive, Champaign)Who: I am God, Night Beds, Jared Bartman, SantahShow starts: 7:30 p.m.Cost: FreeWith the exception of I am God (God knows why they're on this bill), it's a lovely and cost effective night of art pop capped with former (but still semi-) locals, Santah. Don't be fooled by its free-ness; it really is a great bill. And what better way to appreciate the art of music than in an art museum?Facebook Event

Where: Channing-Murray Foundation (Right next to the Red Herring)Who: Hank, Year of the Bobcat, Midstress, So Many DynamosShow starts: 8:15 p.m.Cost: $10 at the door. First come, first served. If the other two shows have to do with soaking in the music as a means to have a great time (among other things), this one is more about rawking your fucking face off. While the music itself is good, I can guarantee that this is the show to hit if you want to dance, sweat, get hit in the face (unintentionally, though), and smell really bad at the end. Skip your Thursday evening workout, and fill your evening with So Many Dynamos and friends.Facebook Event
Where: Canopy ClubWho: That's No Moon, Dirty Feathers, Psychic Twin, HUMShow starts: 9:00 p.m.Cost: $15 in advanceThe withdrawal of Sleigh Bells from a slew of shows, including Pygmalion, caused quite the stir. Festival curator Seth Fein and company acted quickly and managed to grab Champaign-Urbana rock gods HUM for a one-off reunion gig to fill in the headliner gap. While it certainly changes the tone for the night, that's definitely not bad; it's pretty great. Throw in some of CU's currently most successful artists, and you've got yourself a hell of a local showcase.Facebook Event And don't forget about the lovely Spotify playlist we made you so you could better acquaint yourself with this year's Pygmalion lineup.
