This Weekend! Wavves, Trampled by Turtles, and more

Tonight! (Friday, December 7)

Who: Trampled by Turtles, Spirit Family ReunionWhen: 7:00 pmWhere: The Canopy ClubCost: $17 in advance, $20 at the doorAges: All AgesFacebook EventWho would've thought that crowds at bluegrass shows could be capable of creating the same kinds of chaos as those at punk or metal shows? Acoustic-bound bumpkins Trampled by Turtles are one of the driving forces in bluegrass' burst into the "mainstream." While the often try to keep matters low-key, live, you can catch Trampled by Turtles playing banjos, mandolins, guitars, and other strings faster and harder than Taylor Swift ever could (or would). Obviously, there's more to the band's music than speed and ridiculous amounts of energy, but those will be key factors in the impressive sweat stains you get to take home with you if you go to The Canopy Club tonight.

Also tonight:Neoga Blacksmith, Northern Magnolia, The Divide (Mike n' Molly's)

Saturday, December 8

Who: Wavves, The Dirty Feathers, EasterWhen: 7:00 pmWhere: Foellinger AuditoriumCost: $15 for students, $18 for the publicAges: All AgesFacebook EventWavves = Super rad noise pop.Easter = Super rad lo(cal)-fi punk.Dirty Feathers = Super rad local psych-rock staple.Foellinger Auditorium = Giant lecture hall with a stage and weak WiFi signal.Starcourse brought the four together, in what might be the most ridiculous party the University has to offer. While some might consider an auditorium a less-than-ideal venue, the thought of a rowdy hoard of college kids thrashing their brains out in the place those very same brains take a regular beating from monotonous lecturers, seems like a pretty sweet form of metaphysical revenge. You get to rawk away your stress, right before finals. Now, that's stress management.

Also Saturday:

Sunday, December 2

Who: Twenty One Pilots, Come Wind, That's No MoonWhen: 7:00 pmWhere: The Canopy ClubCost: $10 in advance, $12 at the doorAges: 18+Facebook EventAs much as I typically despise Fueled by Ramen and everything they put out, there's no denying that whatever comes out of the label is pretty darn fun (no pun intended). Twenty One Pilots fly a hard-hitting electro-power pop plane which locals That's No Moon can quite successfully take-off, for a night of catchy poppy pop-pop music, with some rock thrown in.
