Sofar Sounds - Champaign (11/09/16) - Intimate Secret Show

sofar-smallFor a Show Happening Around Springfield and Busey...If you are some enlightened, super in the know person who sniffs out the most underground shows with the highest production value available for the setting (a very challenging ratio to balance, to be sure), then you might have heard of Sofar Sounds: a curating group that organizes shows at secret venues in almost 300 cities around the world. If you’re like me, then you might not have heard about it… until now! They started in 2010 in London and since then have expanded to 281 cities, with Champaign, Illinois being the latest addition to that list. Why they’re coming to the middle of middle America, I could not answer you, but here they are and here they will be debuting on November 9th at 8:00 PM.Such a hush hush event would surely have an interesting way of announcing their location and indeed, Sofar does not disappoint. If this kind of thing sounds like something you want to experience firsthand rather than reading this writer’s words, which describe the intimacy of spaces and the engaging tones that will take place on Wednesday night, you can email the organization directly at champaign@sofarsounds.com or by visiting their website. Type in good ole Champaign in the main search bar and then submit your email for consideration of an invitation “around 24 hours before show time” that will inform you of the location to show up to at 8:00 PM (doors at 7:30).Sofar Sounds seems to think that engaging interested individuals in performances by interested artists in cozy settings will bring about a new kind of live music experience and breathe life anew into musical performance in general. So, friends who are interested, why not swing by (with their invitation) and prove them right? Boasting past performances from Leon Bridges, Karen O, and Sylvan Esso (among many others), you’re bound to hear something that is or will be relevant. Or hey, something that is at least good in the here and now, and that’s what gigging is really all about, no?
