The Velvet Elvis is a much nicer apartment than I could ever live in. In addition, it held probably the best line up seen in an apartment/house venue this year. Seriously, how did they get The Appleseed Cast after a last minute headliner drop?Saturday's show started with Hank who highlighted a trumpet player, a new song, and another tight set. Next up were Withershins, who really felt at home during the show (Get it? Frontman Isaac Arms lives there!). After that, Kevin Kern read three of his poems, leading into Good Night and Good Morning’s final performance ever. They played three long, well developed, emotional songs that left the audience a little more pensive than when it arrived. Finally, The Appleseed Cast played, and everyone sang along and relived his/her high school emo phase until they couldn’t keep their eyes open any longer (the show went really late). Even through The Appleseed Cast's intimately awesome set, crowd members persistently plopped down on couches and drifted into slumber, and we got a cute picture of Darwin from Hank asleep on the couch.Photos by Adam Barnett (due to low lighting, the photos are a bit... grainy.
