Pygmalion Preview: Dessa, Youth Lagoon, Kishi Bashi and more
The Pygmalion show at the High-Dive this year is so big it needs two stages. The all-ages show costs $30 and will take place at the Highdive Outdoor Annex on Saturday, September 28. Here's a preview of the bands playing on stage 2. A stage 1 preview can be found here
Kicking things off on stage 2 are hometown heroes Elsinore. The Champaign indie rockers are promoting their new album Push/Pull, which is coming out October 15th. They are going to bring extra energy to this home show so get excited.
Next on stage is self-described post-rock, chamber pop, contemporary classical group San Fermin. The put out a self-titled full-length album September 17th and are touring in support of that material. Don't get scared off by that description, though, the pop sensibilities are here in full-force.
The Illinois synth-pop group is a stellar member of the movement brining 80's new wave back into music. The music has an airy vibe that is still incredibly danceable.
The sister garage rock band is sure to get the crowd jumping. Having everything they need to become a successful band, it's just a matter of time before they blow up. Be sure not to miss your chance of being there in the beginning.
Kishi Bashi adds great diversity to the event as the singer and multi-instrumentalist songwriter performs his self-produced orchestral pop music. He recently released a 2-track album titled Philsophize In It! Chemicalize With It! on September 10.
As part of the Doomtree collective, indie hip hop artist Dessa will perform from 9:30 to 10:15 p.m. Her latest album released in June, Parts of Speech, features songs “Warsaw” and “Call Off Your Ghost.”
