Pure Energy Blog - Week 1

Hey everyone! This is ALYXX, DJ of the PURE ENERGY show at 7PM-8PM on Fridays. Hoping to keep up this blog throughout the year as sort of a window into what kind of music I'm listening to and might be playing on the show! So far I'm kind of slating the show as a somewhat random, general music digging and exposure sort of thing;. It plays well with the fact that I download a variety of genres every week, though I might do a show or two revolving around a genre again! Here's some digs from this week: [soundcloud url="https://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/222736169" params="color=ff5500&auto_play=false&hide_related=false&show_comments=true&show_user=true&show_reposts=false" width="100%" height="166" iframe="true" /]Starting off with one of my new favorite vocal tracks, Christian Burns kills it with his single "Skin and Bones" with Swanky Tunes. Something about the tonality of this dude's voice works so well, especially in electronic music where you usually expect a female sort of vocal to come along. Drops into a run of the mill progressive beat, but the breakdown is chilling, big and well refined, a pleasure to listen to! [soundcloud url="https://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/224281475" params="color=ff5500&auto_play=false&hide_related=false&show_comments=true&show_user=true&show_reposts=false" width="100%" height="166" iframe="true" /]Along the same lines as the last one is a track from Jes and Tom Fall, released on Armada Trice. Coming from Trice, it has a trademark, bigger sound than most trance tracks, but retains enough of the feel and euphoria of a trance track to maybe be called uplifting trance? Borderline? Haha, regardless, the breakdown is immaculate on this track, with Jes lending a clear, breathy voice to a room filling, calming atmosphere until the track elevates itself to a massive drop. [soundcloud url="https://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/222314856" params="color=ff5500&auto_play=false&hide_related=false&show_comments=true&show_user=true&show_reposts=false" width="100%" height="166" iframe="true" /]Maybe I'm breaking a bit of PizzaFM convention with this, but I love the style that MNEK lends to this track. It's not run of the mill, mainstream Deep House, EDM, electronic, nope, this is straight up Future Bass. Slow, but quick on that breakbeat, with large bass hits and trappy 808 snares to kick you into the groove, this is definitely something that's starting to gain some traction alongside the harder elements of Future House and Trap. Absolutely love it as it really just flips the vocals of the track, going from the original running DnB feel to a slow, broken down groove. (In other news...I kind of didn't realize the original mix was DnB. DnB is getting mainstream these days? What has the world come to? :) ) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cdx41GyXdL4Before I jump into some harder stuff to finish it off, I want to put this one up. Some old school vibes emanating from this track, very lovely, very awesome house coming here. Not Big Room House or any of that new stuff, this is real house. Very happy to see that this stuff is still being released these days. (check that timestamp, released 2 days ago #hipster). [soundcloud url="https://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/223788410" params="color=ff5500&auto_play=false&hide_related=false&show_comments=true&show_user=true&show_reposts=false" width="100%" height="166" iframe="true" /]And here we go with something to satisfy you big room heads,. Don't worry, I'm one too sometimes; Firebeatz came out with this not too long ago, and in usual Firebeatz style, it doesn't disappoint with some massive synths and an abstract, catchy breakdown hook to keep you locked in the zone. Something to jump around and have a blast to as always! [soundcloud url="https://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/223224539" params="color=ff5500&auto_play=false&hide_related=false&show_comments=true&show_user=true&show_reposts=false" width="100%" height="166" iframe="true" /]Ending the post here with something that I don't post very often, some harrrrrdstyle. Rebourne & Crystal Lake's Lifted edges a little more on the melodic side, which I do honestly love in terms of Hardstyle. Kicking it out with some massive, euphoric synths in the breakdown and progressing into the beat gives your head something to bob to alongside the shuffling you might be doing to the well polished, twangy kicks. Overall very unified, very well put together of a track! That's it for now, see you guys Friday 7-8PM!
