Pizza Preview: SPOOKFEST 2015

Salutations, pizza pals. I hope that all you October Lovers out there are enjoying the best month of the year. Leaves are crunching underfoot, there's a jug of Curtis Orchard apple cider in your fridge, midterms are over, and life is good. It's almost enough to make you forget that...HALLOWEEN, THE SPOOKIEST DAY OF THE YEAR, IS THIS WEEKEND. In preparation for the most scary, gruesome, grisly, horrifying, and all around creepy night of the year, you'd better clear your calendar, because at 709 W. Stoughton on 10/29 (that's this Thursday for all you non-spooksters). Pizza FM's #spooky Halloween party, self-described as a "mega-spooky wild shin dig with live bands playing throughout the night" will be held and your socks, shoes, and underwear are all bound to get spooked right off. Only $5 for unlimited spook juice to all partiers with a costume. Be there, or good bones and calcium will NEVER come to you. EVER. Here's a bit about the bands you can see: The Phantom BroadcastLeading off the night, what could be spookier than a cross genre jazz-rock band from Chicago? Plus, look at that basement, you just know some spooky stuff goes on in there. Their second album Until Next Time, released last fall, is "a concept album set in a futuristic, isolated, yet bustling city named Argonne found beneath a glass dome on 1 of the 67 Galilean moons of Jupiter." Far out. You can stream the whole thing on bandcampGay NeighborsDon't let their cuddly flamboyant name fool you--Gay Neighbors are not to be trifled with. Bringing the heat from Bloomington, these spooky fellas are not black and white in real life, but their music might make you feel like you're in an old Bela Lugosi film anyway. A crazy mishmash of genres and loud noises from vaporwave to surf punk, give them a preview on bandcamp, then feast your peepers on the second band of the night live on Thursday. Dirty MoonsThese guys are so spooky they don't have a picture I can find. Along for the ride with Gay Neighbors and also hailing from Bloomington, Dirty Moons makes music you can really smoke a beer to and wants you to know: Satan does careThe TomblandsCertain to be the loudest, and, therefor, spookiest band of the event, The Tomblands are gonna send shivers down your spine and probably spook some of the hair right off your head. The closing band is a garange-punk 4-piece ensemble and Ouija enthusiast collective. I don't think they do all their shows naked, but let that picture do some work on your imagination. This is also their very first show since releasing their hot new EP--Drowned Again. Cool!
