Out Today: October 9, 2012

Every Tuesday is album release day (as well as video games, movies, etc.), but on a day so far from the weekend, it's a good feeling to wake up to some brand, spankin' new music.

A.C. Newman - Shut Down the Streets (Matador)By now, a whole bunch of you have already heard something by The New Pornographers. A.C. Newman is one of the three primary vocalists, besides Dan Bejar (Destroyer) and Neko Case. So here's third solo LP filled with his very distinguishable tenor, acoustic guitar, and some tweasy-listening for your eager ears.

Metz - Metz (Sub Pop)Over the Summer, Sub Pop announced plans to release the self-titled debut of Canadian noise-garage-punks Metz. While the label has gone a little quieter since its grunge days (Fleet Foxes, Beach House, etc), Metz is beat-up-your-friends-in-a-loving-way music. Sweaty, dirty, noisy rock.Stream it here.

Tame Impala - Lonerism (Modular)Probably one of the most anticipated releases of the week, Tame Impala goes down the vintage pop route for some high-quality ear candy. Verby, treble-heavy guitar and vocals, hooks, and a fun time await you inside.Stream it here.

Trash Talk - 119 (Odd Future)I bet you kids all thought that Odd Future solely put out Hip-Hop and R&B. Well, Trash Talk brings some hardcore/metalcore revival to the Tyler, The Creator-fronted collective. He even makes a guest appearance!

Yo Gabba Gabba! - Music is Awesome: Vol. 4 (Team Love)Back in high school, my friends and I discovered a children's show called Pancake Mountain, for which Anti-Flag did the theme song, and Bright Eyes played a guest performance as very young children danced around Conor Oberst, and he spoke to a goat puppet. It seemed that such a thing couldn't be topped until The Aquabats started their own children's show on Nickelodeon titled Yo Gabba Gabba!, wherein a DJ in an orange jumpsuit teaches valuable life skills to children through song, along with giant, cuddly monsters. And, there are musical guests galore. In the first volume of songs released by the show, of Montreal performed a song called "Brush, Brush, Brush," that is still one of my favorite tunes to this day. Now, in Volume 4, we see musical guests like The Bird and The Bee, Cut Copy, Belle and Sebastian, CSS, Peter Bjorn & John, and The Roots sing songs about being a dinosaur, covering up your mouth when you cough, and more.
