Out today: Pissed Jeans, San Fermin, Foals, and more
Every Tuesday is album release day (as well as video games, movies, etc.), but on a day so far from the weekend, it's a good feeling to wake up to some brand, spankin' new music.
Foals - Holy Fire (Transgressive)Oxford's Foals released an uncharacteristically dance-poppy EP a few months back, and it was alright. But it's good to have Foals back in true form. Holy Fire combines the crunchy, distortion-heavy breakdowns of the alt. rock universe with synthpop/dance-punk rhythms, and a whole mess of hooks. Foals' new release basks in unpredictability.Stream it here.
San Fermin - San Fermin (Self-release)We posted album single "Sonsick" in last week's mp3 pack (and you can download the song by itself via Soundcloud, below). Based in Brooklyn, San Fermin is the project of Ellis Ludwig-Leone, featuring an arsenal of guest musicians from yMusic, Bon Iver, and other musical masterminds. San Fermin's self-titled debut contains some of the best baroque/chamber pop compositions I've heard so far this year, and I'm extremely confident it'll hold its own among contemporaries.
Pissed Jeans - Honeys (Sub Pop)
Pissed Jeans have absolutely no reservations. Spitting harsh and fast vocals, over-driving every frequency across the audio spectrum, and being flat-out tough punx, Pissed Jeans could encourage the shiest four-year old on the playground to beat the snot out of the sandbox bully. Honeys is the fourth LP from the Allentown quartet, and it's out today on Sub Pop.Stream it here.
