Out Today: Cheatahs, FIDLAR, Grouper, and more!
Every Tuesday is album release day (as well as video games, movies, etc.), but on a day so far from the weekend, it's a good feeling to wake up to some brand, spankin' new music.
Cheatahs - Extended Plays (Wichita)
The latest release from garage rock Londoners Cheatahs is actually a compilation of their two 2012 EPs, previously only available on 12" vinyl or digitally. The combination of the Sans EP and the Coared EP results in a broad stroke of 90s nostalgia harkening back to the glory days of fuzzed out bliss. The record is available on CD or vinyl here.
FIDLAR's eponymous debut is as thrashing, abrasive, and violent as you'd expect from such a stereotypical skate punk group. But the standard guitar-driven mess is everything you could want for a momentary fix. Although you might not be 15 and hate the world anymore, this stuff is still ripe for blasting from your bedroom just to piss off your mom.Stream the new album on Pitchfork.
Grouper - The Man Who Died in His Boat (Kranky)
Grouper's ethereal drone makes a comeback on the new LP, featuring the same analog noise and floating layered vocals you've already heard before from Liz Harris' gloomy project, yet it still manages to captivate the listener in its gentle sway. But you know what they say–if it's not broken, don't fix it!
