DJ of the week: Sean of ze Dead
Inaugurating the new series DJ of the week is DJ Sean of ze Dead! We touched upon the basics... that is, Halloween costumes and the origin of his widely lauded moniker.Michelle: Congrats on being the first DJ of the week EVER! First, the basics: what is your major and what year are you?Sean: I'm a Computer Engineer in my senior year.M: Tell me about your show! What kind of music do you play?S: My show is Japanese Chill sessions; I play Japanese music (obviously)! I go from all genres, ranging from Jpop to J-Jazz. I try to put a classy theme going on with my show, brass instruments, orchestra, mellow/"chill" hence the name, but sometimes I change it up and just want to rock out or go all pop. There's lots of anime and game music too.M: How did you come up with "Sean of ze Dead" ?S: Honestly it's a silly name - I'm a big fan of Simon Pegg's films, and after watching his recent flick, and the pressure to come up with a DJ name, I chose my favorite acting role of his - Shaun of the Dead.M: Who is your favorite artist of ALL TIME? Band, singer, drummer, violinist.. etc.S: Of all time, it's got to be Damon Albarn, frontman of the British pop band Blur and the vocalist/songwriter/co-creator for Gorillaz. Dude's got major talent and diversity; each Blur album is vastly different, and Gorillaz itself is such an experiment. Major respect for him.M: What is one artist that you've really liked that you have found by compiling your weekly playlists? Last week when compiling my playlist, for example, I found "The So So Glos" by perusing through some punk bands for my show!S: I liked the band SOFFet, I expect to play some of their stuff in upcoming weeks! They are similar to this hip-hop "chill" jazz pop group I like called Home Made Kazoku. There's not enough artists like HMK! I was pretty excited to find them.M: What is one fact you want your audience to know about you?S: I'm just a typical nerdy college student, nothing special!M: Everybody is special! But anyway, the most important question is…will you be dressing up for Halloween, and if so, as what?S: Haha, I didn't plan on it; I always think about doing so, but then schoolwork just takes all my time. I'm more likely to be found cosplaying at another time of the year than dressing up for Halloween...M: Yes, it is my understanding that engineers probably have better, more productive things to do than dress up to celebrate pagan holidays. Anyway, thanks so much Sean!Catch Japanese Chill Sessions with DJ Sean of ze Dead every Sunday from 6-8pm!
